A Guarda Nacional Republicana, promove ao terceiro Domingo de cada mês, pelas 11:00 horas, através do Esquadrão Presidencial, o Render Solene da Guarda ao Palácio Nacional de Belém, o qual é frequentemente descrito como uma das mais belas cerimónias militares em todo o mundo, habitualmente assistido por centenas de pessoas.

O Render Solene da Guarda, cerimónia revestida de grande simbolismo e tradição, surgiu no ano de 1969, retomando uma antiga tradição militar. A cerimónia é realizada pelos militares que garantem a segurança permanente à Residência Oficial de Sua Excelência o Presidente da República e a prestação de honras militares aos Chefes de Estado que visitam Portugal desde 1912, ano em que o Palácio Nacional de Belém se tornou Residência Oficial de Sua Excelência o Presidente da República.

Na cerimónia participam 160 militares da Guarda Nacional Republicana que constituem as Guardas ao Palácio (a Guarda rendida e a que rende), a Banda de Música, um Pelotão a cavalo que escolta o portador do Santo-e-Senha, a Charanga a Cavalo e binómios cinotécnicos.

Na varanda do palácio, o terno de clarins anuncia o início da cerimónia, com o desfile militar e com uma atuação da Banda de Música que abrilhanta o cerimonial através da execução de marchas militares, bem como de uma peça musical que difere mensalmente.

No final do cerimonial, a Charanga a Cavalo atua no Jardim Vieira Portuense, onde se assiste a um magnífico carrossel de movimentos executados pelos seus cavalos enquanto os cavaleiros brindam o público com trechos musicais, sendo a única Charanga a Cavalo no mundo a tocar a galope.

The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) promotes on the third Sunday of each month, at 11:00 a.m., through the Presidential Squadron, the Changing of the Guard to the Belém National Palace, which is often described as one of the most beautiful military ceremonies around the world, usually attended by hundreds of people.

The Changing of the Guard, which is a ceremony with great symbolism and tradition, emerged in 1969, resuming an old military tradition. The ceremony is carried out by the military elements to guarantee permanent security to the official residence of His Excellency the President of the Republic and to render military honours to the heads of State that have visited Portugal since 1912, the year in which the Belém National Palace became the official residence of His Excellency the President of the Republic.

In the ceremony, participate one-hundred and sixty (160) GNR military elements that constitute the Palace Guards (the relieved guard and the relieving guard), the Music Band, a Platoon on horseback that escorts the bearer of the password, the Charanga (brass band) on horseback and the K-9 dogs and dog handlers.

On the balcony of the Palace, three buglers herald the beginning of the ceremony, with the military parade and a performance of the Music Band that embellishes the entire ceremony by performing military marches, as well as a musical piece that differs every month.

At the end of the ceremony, the brass band on horseback performs in the Vieira Portuense garden, where the public watches a magnificent carousel of moves executed by their horses while the riders present the audience with musical snippets, being the only brass band on horseback in the world to play at full gallop.
